Here is a video of the process of my fly fishing project.

Fly Fishing

Today is critique for my figure drawing class. Our assignment was to create some kind of work not using your hands. Like a traditional painting on a canvas. We had to have some kind of object that was attached to our body to make the piece of work.

As I started to think about what I wanted to do for this, I started to brainstorm on what kind of things I like to do and how I could incorporate that with my artwork. Instantly Fly Fishing came to my mind. So I decided to take my fly rod and attach feathers on the end of the line for a fly. I then would act like I am fly fishing and dip the feathers in paint and hit a large white sheet with the fly. I took two polls and strung two clothes lines between them and pinned the white sheet between them like a canvas.

I really liked how it turned out and it was a lot of fun. Another reason why I wanted to use fly fishing was that I feel like fly fishing alone is an art to me. Once you get the feel of the rhythm of the casts its an amazing feeling and I really wanted to get that feeling on something visual I could see.
I may make a series of paintings like this in the future and use different kinds of "lures" I make. I will put some pictures on here later on of the finished work.
